Scalp Micropigmentation: The Process

If you’re experiencing hair loss, you’ve likely researched every potential remedy on the market. Maybe you’ve tried out several methods and none of them have worked for you. Maybe you just discovered your hair loss and are eager to find the solution and move on with your life.

For those of you that have spent hours and hours researching and trying out new treatments, you may have heard of scalp micropigmentation, a noninvasive procedure that fills in the hairline using micropigments.

Keep reading to learn more about the scalp micropigmentation treatment process, from start to finish.

What is Scalp Micropigmentation?
First, a little more about scalp micropigmentation. Again, scalp micropigmentation is a non-invasive process, meaning you will not be cut into, as opposed to other hair loss treatments.

A technician will use microneedles to apply pigment to your scalp, filling in your hairline. If you are balding, the pigments can be applied to mimic a short, cropped hair style or a recently shaved head.

The Steps
The Consultation. Most scalp micropigmentation providers offer a consultation, usually free, to discuss your unique situation. During this consultation, the expert at the office will take a look at your hair loss to create a treatment plan that is personalized for you and your needs. Additionally, he or she will likely create a mock-up of what you can expect to look like following your scalp micropigmentation treatment.

Schedule. Once you are satisfied with your personalized treatment plan and the hair mockup, you will schedule your scalp micropigmentation treatments. Scalp micropigmentation is not a one and done procedure — you will go through about 2-3 treatments that are scheduled 10-14 days apart so that your scalp is given time to heal. Make sure you keep your personal and professional obligations in mind when making your appointments.

Treatment One. On the day of your first treatment, the micro pigments will be applied to mimic a foundation of dense, numerous hair follicles. After the first treatment, you’ll notice that your hairline looks much more full than it did before.

Treatment Two and Three. Treatments two and three are to add more density to the foundation created in treatment one. Additionally, your technician will blend the pigments in your existent, actual hair to create a completely natural looking hairline. Your technician will also be able to make minor adjustments to your hairline if you deem them necessary.

After the Treatment
Following the treatment, you will be given guidelines and instructions on how to care for your scalp. Make sure to follow the instructions carefully. Fortunately, you likely will not have to return to the scalp micropigmentation provider for 4-6 years for a touch up.

Where to Go
There are several companies, like SMP Aus, dedicated solely to scalp micropigmentation services, particularly scalp micropigmentation on the hairline (though scalp micropigmentation can be applied to other parts of the body.) Look for scalp micropigmentation providers in you are and don’t hesitate to schedule your first consultation.
